It is with great sadness that I write to let you know that Valerie passed away earlier today.
Valerie had been suffering from leukemia for some time and this had forced her to stop attending choir in October 2021. Various choir members visited Valerie in hospital and at the aged care home where she lived. None more so than Carol Poole, who became a close friend of Valerie and had been visiting her frequently over the past six months.
Carol commented that Valerie knew that the end was getting near and that the past few days had been quite uncomfortable for her. Valerie’s brother and sister-in-law were with her when she passed and said that she had slipped away peacefully.
Valerie joined Voiceworks in July 2020 and performed in the ‘Second Noel’ in December and then in ‘I Want To Be In Pictures’ in June 2021

Valerie loved being part of Voiceworks and featured in a Press Release published in the Subiaco Post in September 2020 in which she said “I love the selection of songs that we are
working on and I’m really impressed with the professionalism of our music director and accompanist”. This was high praise from someone who had a long and distinguished career as a music teacher and featured in leading roles in many WA Opera company and Gilbert and Sullivan Society productions.
